What Is the Difference Between Ecommerce and Digital Marketing?

Although eCommerce and digital marketing are closely intertwined, they are certainly not one and the same.

eCommerce deals with selling and buying goods and services across the internet, while digital marketing focuses on promotional strategies that drive traffic to your eCommerce store. Learning the difference between the two is crucial for your business because these processes work closely together. So, what is the difference between eCommerce and digital marketing?

eCommerce

Like a bricks-and-mortar business, eCommerce businesses require a channel where customers can browse through the inventory and order goods and services, and this is often a website. When running an eCommerce store, one of the first things you will have to do is create a website that displays all your items. A website also allows you to process orders and accept payments from customers. That said, having a great site isn’t enough in eCommerce. You will need to advertise your business to generate traffic to your site, and this is where digital marketing comes in.

Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is essential to the success of eCommerce. It helps you reach your target audience and converts the incoming traffic into paying customers. Some examples of digital marketing include:

SEO

Search engine optimisation focuses on your site’s ranking on search engines such as Google, Bing, etc. It helps your website become more discoverable by optimising your content using relevant keywords and quality backlinks. SEO generates organic traffic, which means that you won’t pay for each visit on your site.

SMM

Social media marketing is one of the most powerful methods of advertising today. It can help you raise brand awareness, create a brand identity, increase engagement, and increase website traffic. All you need to do is select a few social media platforms and consistently publish content relevant to your brand.

PPC

Pay-per-click advertising requires that you pay search engines every time a user clicks on your ad.

Although different, eCommerce and digital marketing work together to grow and prosper your business. For digital marketing and web design services, please contact us today to talk to our team of experts.

8 Reasons Why You Need a Website for Your Business Growth in 2021

The internet is constantly evolving how we share knowledge, communicate with one another, and lead a quality lifestyle. T0 succeed in this competitive market, you need to have a prominent presence. Consumers like to have information at their fingertips and there has never been a more significant time to establish a website for your business.

Investing in a website could be the means of success for your business as it enhances social credibility, better advertising, increased sales, market expansion, customer convenience, and 24-hour availability. This article will guide you on why you should establish a website for your business growth.

Increase your revenue

Investing in a website will increase your revenue by reaching thousands of customers online and attracting them to your business without too much outlay. It will be increased even more if the website you designed is easy to access and simple to use so it’s not difficult for potential consumers to buy your goods online.

Your customers expect it

Your customers want to know more about you and your goods and may visit your website often before they purchase. Providing information about your goods and services helps with buying decisions. Also, having a chat option is a good opportunity to provide communication between you and customers by answering their queries.

It helps to your company credibility

Designing your website will help you increase your company’s credibility; people base their buying decisions on how well a company website is designed and updated. Creativity attracts the customer to buy goods and recommends their friends.

Decrease of social media reach

Most average businesses have a page on social media site, but it will not help you grow your business by only creating a page there. You need a professional website as well.

Exhibit your offers

By flaunting your offers on your website through display, short videos, or PDF files, the time customers spend on the website will increase and result in your business growth. These offers encourage the customer to contact you and share them with their friends, helping you gain more audience and increased sales.

Compete with brands

Creating a website will help you compete with other brands within your industry. Also, having your website professionally designed will give you an edge over other homemade websites.

The website never sleeps

You can earn even when you are sleeping or spending time with your loved ones because your website is taking orders 24/7 if you’ve designed it the right way.

Share your story

Sharing your story will gain the interest of people. By telling them what struggles you faced and what made you start this business, many will relate and share it with their friends. Remember, people buy from people.

What is Keyword Research in Digital Marketing?

Keywords are an integral part of search engine optimisation (SEO) and this can be crucial when you are using digital marketing to get more people to visit your website. So, what is keyword research in digital marketing and how can you effectively digitally market your website?

How are keywords used in SEO?

Keywords are an intrinsic part of SEO because they are the words and phrases that people input into search engines. SEO or search engine optimisation is the process of ensuring that your site is found by search engines like Google and ranks highly on a search engine results page (SERP).

When customers or clients are looking for products or services, they will type in the terms they are searching for and if your site correlates with these terms, it is likely to rank more highly on the results page. Internet users tend to click on the search results that are higher up the page. By optimising your sites for search engines, alongside using a variety of other strategies, you can achieve a higher page ranking and attract more traffic.

What is keyword research in digital marketing?

When you want your site to achieve a high SERP ranking, it is important that you know exactly which words and phrases your potential clients are searching for. This allows you to integrate these terms into your website content. You can also learn where you rank for keywords along with where your competitors rank, giving you an edge in boosting your site’s SEO.

How can keyword research benefit your business?

Once you know which keywords are the most searched for in your industry, this allows you to use them to your advantage. You can create a blog and weave these keywords into the content. You can also optimise the rest of your website to ensure that keywords are used throughout, including in the metadata and alt image text. Ultimately, this will boost your SERP ranking and ensure that you receive increased traffic and a higher volume of business.

How to Design a Company Website

With the increased use of the internet, it is no longer feasible to run a business without some sort of online presence. Besides social media, a well-designed website can help open up your small business to new markets and give you an edge in your field. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to create a website for your business.

Pick a domain name

Your domain name is one of the most important features of your website. It should be descriptive, memorable, and easy to type in. Keep it as short as possible, and avoid using acronyms, numbers, and hyphens where possible. Using the right domain extension is also critical, so always aim for the .com extension. Once you settle on a name, confirm its availability and check copyrights to ensure that it does not contain any registered trademarks.

Purchase website hosting

When selecting a website hosting provider, you can choose a shared server or a dedicated server. The former is much more affordable, but performance can be slow, and security is easily compromised. The latter can be very expensive, but it would allow your website to perform optimally. Other than cost, some of the other things to look out for when selecting a host include security, scalability, intuitive interface, and technical support.

Build your pages

A good website should have several pages dedicated to different aspects of your business. You will need a home page, an about page, a blog page, a products/services page, a contacts page, an FAQ page, and a reviews page. Your homepage should help visitors understand what your company is all about, so create a clear and concise statement. Also, remember to place strategic calls to action where necessary and ensure that they match the information on the page.

Optimise your website for SEO

SEO ensures that search engines such as Google index and rank your website appropriately. A good website design, together with other SEO practices such as fast loading speed, keyword implementation, and quality backlinks, helps your website rank higher on search engine result pages, which helps increase your website traffic.

Real Internet SSL

Is Your Website Secure?

Is your website secure? It matters to Google!

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. The ‘S’ at the end of HTTPS stands for ‘Secure’. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted. HTTPS is often used to protect highly confidential online transactions like online banking and online shopping order forms.

Web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome also display a padlock icon in the address bar to visually indicate that an HTTPS connection is in effect.

How Does HTTPS Work?

HTTPS pages typically use one of two secure protocols to encrypt communications – SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or TLS (Transport Layer Security). Both the TLS and SSL protocols use what is known as an ‘asymmetric’ Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system. An asymmetric system uses two ‘keys’ to encrypt communications, a ‘public’ key and a ‘private’ key. Anything encrypted with the public key can only be decrypted by the private key and vice-versa.

As the names suggest, the ‘private’ key should be kept strictly protected and should only be accessible to the owner of the private key. In the case of a website, the private key remains securely ensconced on the webserver. Conversely, the public key is intended to be distributed to anybody and everybody that needs to be able to decrypt information that was encrypted with the private key.

What is an HTTPS certificate?

When you request an HTTPS connection to a webpage, the website will initially send its SSL certificate to your browser. This certificate contains the public key needed to begin the secure session. Based on this initial exchange, your browser and the website then initiate the ‘SSL handshake’. The SSL handshake involves the generation of shared secrets to establish a uniquely secure connection between yourself and the website.

When a trusted SSL Digital Certificate is used during an HTTPS connection, users will see a padlock icon in the browser address bar. When an Extended Validation Certificate is installed on a website, the address bar will turn green.

Why Is an SSL Certificate Required?

All communications sent over regular HTTP connections are in ‘plain text’ and can be read by any hacker that manages to break into the connection between your browser and the website. This presents a clear danger if the ‘communication’ is on an order form and includes your credit card details or social security number. With an HTTPS connection, all communications are securely encrypted. This means that even if somebody managed to break into the connection, they would not be able to decrypt any of the data which passes between you and the website.

Benefits of Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure

The major benefits of an HTTPS certificate are:

  • Customer information, like credit card numbers, is encrypted and cannot be intercepted
  • Visitors can verify you are a registered business and that you own the domain
  • Customers are more likely to trust and complete purchases from sites that use HTTPS

What’s Included in Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is one of those terms that everyone claims to know what it means but get stuck when it comes to the nitty-gritty. As a result, many business owners end up leveraging it incorrectly, resulting in significant losses.

What exactly is digital marketing?

It’s also known as online marketing, and it’s any form of advertisement that uses digital channels such as social media, websites, mobile apps, and search engines to convey promotional messages and measure their impact.

Online marketing can take several forms, including display ads, online video, and social media posts. When creating a digital communication campaign, it’s vital to understand what’s included to get the most out of it.

To help you get started, here are some of the things included in online marketing:

1. Social media marketing

Digital marketers use social media to promote a brand’s products/services because it provides immediate interaction and customer feedback. You’ll not only share information and engage with your target audience but also increase brand awareness.

2. Search engine optimization (SEO)

If you own a website, you know how vital SEO is in driving traffic to your site and increasing your authority. SEO refers to optimizing a site to increase its visibility for relevant searches.

A web developer can help you create a practical, attractive, and relevant website that’s SEO compliant, improving site navigation and usability.

3. Search engine marketing (SEM)

SEM refers to using paid strategies to increase your site’s visibility in search engines. One common example is Google AdWords, where you pay Google a certain amount to display your advertisement for relevant searches.

4. Content marketing

This involves creating and sharing valuable information to influence your target audience to take action, e.g., buy a product. As a form of storytelling, content marketing builds healthy relationships with potential customers by making strong emotional connections.

Other things included in online marketing are pay-per-click advertising (PPC), affiliate marketing, and email marketing.

What is Social Media Marketing in Digital Marketing

Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, etc., to market your company’s products and services. It involves publishing tailored content on various platforms, running social media ads, and engaging with your audience.

This form of digital marketing helps you connect with your target market to drive more traffic to your website, increase sales, and build your brand.

Five Pillars of Social Media Marketing

Strategy

The first step to a successful social media campaign is creating a strategy. This step requires you to think long and hard about your goals and how social media can help you achieve them. Do you want to increase brand awareness or increase sales and website traffic? Understanding your goals will help you choose suitable social media platforms and the type of content that will be shared.

Planning and Publishing

When running your business’s social media accounts, consistency is key. You must draft a plan of what your content will look like and decide when it will be published on your various platforms. Posting your content at the right time and frequency allows you to reach your audience when they are most active.

Listening and Engagement

As your following grows, conversations about your business will also increase. Your followers will engage with you by commenting on your posts, messaging you directly, and tagging you on their social media posts. As this happens, it is crucial that you monitor all conversations about your brand. You can manually check your notifications on all social media platforms, but this isn’t efficient. Therefore, consider using a social media listening and engaging tool that sums up all your social media mentions and messages, including those that didn’t tag your company’s social media profile.

Analytics and Reporting

As you continue with social media marketing, it is critical that you find out how your posts are performing. How many new followers did you get this month? How many people used your brand’s hashtag? Which type of post did your followers most engage with? Finding answers to these questions will help you adjust your strategy as required, so ensure that you get reports of engagement and reach every so often.

Advertising

Purchasing social media advertisements is a great way to further promote your brand. They help you reach a wider audience by allowing you to create target audiences based on their interests, behaviours, demographics, etc.

GOOGLE – the thing that we use most days, how does it work?

At Real Internet, we always like to keep up to date with the latest trends and algorithms. However, we also enjoy educating our clients as best we can. Google can be a minefield — search engine optimisation (SEO), analytics and lots more!

Most people use Google for its search function; there are thousands of web pages of information found every time you search with a keyword or phrase.

But have you ever wondered why some web pages are listed higher than others? Before you even search, Google has information about web pages organised in their search index. The index is a vast library that holds more information than all the world’s libraries put together.

At Real Internet, we always recommend updating your website regularly. This is because website crawlers pay special attention to new sites and changes to existing sites.

Computer programs determine which sites to website crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site. The website crawling process begins with a list of web addresses from past crawls and sitemaps provided by website owners. As Google’s crawlers visit these websites, they use links on those sites to discover other pages.

When the crawlers find a web page, Google’s systems render the content of the page, just as a browser does. Google takes note of key signals, from website freshness to keywords. It then keeps track of it all in the search index. Did you know the Google search index contains hundreds of billions of web pages and is well over 100,000,000 gigabytes in size? When Google indexes each word on a website, they add it to all entries. Imagine how large the index in the back of a book would be for one website, let alone all the websites today!

Looking in the back of a book index to find what you need would be impossible on the world wide web without Google’s ranking systems. A series of algorithms make up the ranking systems, and they sort through hundreds of billions of web pages in the search index to find the best result for you in seconds. Hundreds of websites are published every second and content is constantly being indexed.

The Real Internet Team

What is digital marketing for small businesses?

Simply put, digital marketing is any form of marketing that is done online. It encompasses all marketing efforts that use the internet or an electronic device and leverages channels such as email, social media, and search engines. Digital marketing has levelled the field in the eCommerce industry, allowing small businesses to outrank established enterprises.

Here are some of the most effective digital marketing strategies for small businesses.

Social media marketing

Social media marketing is without a doubt one of the most effective ways of marketing your small business, but for it to work, you must really understand your target audience. Instead of spreading yourself across various platforms, figure out which channels make the most sense for the customers you are trying to reach. LinkedIn will be most appropriate if you are targeting professions, but if you target a younger demographic, then platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat would be best. Social media marketing is all about developing a relationship with your customers, so as you sell to them, remember to also listen and engage with them.

Search engine marketing

This type of marketing is critical for small businesses because it allows you to compete with big companies in your industry. Customers search to find products, and it is, therefore, crucial that you are visible on search engine result pages. With SEO marketing, the first thing you must do is create a website. You can do this yourself or get a website company to do it for you. Once that’s done, the second thing you have to do is create and publish high-quality content. Utilise keywords related to what you are selling to help your website rank higher on SERPs.

Pay-per-click marketing

This method of advertising involves running online advertisements. As the name suggests, businesses only pay when users click on their ads. PPC marketing is beneficial to small businesses for several reasons, one being that you only pay for results. The ads are also highly targeted towards a specific demographic, allowing you to reach new and existing customers. Beyond increasing your reach, PPC marketing provides you with valuable information that can be used to improve your SEO strategy.

The White House, Newquay

Last week, we completed an upgrade and refresh of the website for The White House, Newquay. Their old website didn’t reflect the luxurious style of the hotel and now it promotes it in all its glory!

The White House Hotel is a beautiful period building ideally located in Newquay and a short walk to the bars, shops, restaurants, and the magnificent beaches of Newquay. It is the perfect destination for guests who wish to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings while exploring the magnificent North Cornish coast. North-Cornwall-coast

The new owners have devoted lots of time and money upgrading the hotel over the past year and wanted the website to reflect the hotel’s focus on opulence, luxury, and timeless elegance.

We had several discussions with the owners about how they wanted the website to look and feel and produced a few options for them. After taking time to deliberate, they came back with the perfect choice to showcase the hotel and its gorgeous rooms.

The owners provided us with the copy content and plenty of images we could use for each room, as well as for the general facilities.

The opulent font we used for the page headings is the same as The White House uses on their business cards and other stationery, so it all ties in together and creates an overall brand impression. And the font we used for the body text is very neat which complements the heading text perfectly.

After many back-and-forth conversations deciding on the best images and placing of the text, we finished the new website, and it went live last week.

As a team, we are pleased with how it looks and, more importantly, the owners extremely happy with the end result.

If you have a website that’s looking a bit tired and in need of a refresh, or if you need a completely new website built for you, please contact the Real Internet team.
